Google Map

This map will be used by students as a point of reference.  This will help students have a better understanding of where there pen-pals are located.  Students will also be able to compare and contrast the location of the two areas as well as the geographic features that affect the weather.  Students will be able to compare these two locations in relationship to the equator, major bodies of water and mountain ranges.   Students may use this map for cross-curricular learning.  Students could write about the similarities and differences of the two locations (Writing), read about Mexico’s weather (Reading), find the difference in temperature and precipitation (Math), learn about the culture and history of Mexico (Social Studies), and study vegetation and types of animals native to the area (Science).

  1. The map will be a great tool to help us explain to our students from a more visual aspect. It will help to show the students that we are in the northern hempisphere while Mexico is further down South experiencing different weather changes due to their location near the ocean. The map also shows just how far Mexico is from Michigan and how far we would have to travel to experience warmer weather year around. I like that we discuss the fact that the location to the equator also plays a huge role in weather climates.
